Accomplished Biotechnologist, enthusiastic about utilizing the wide spectrum of biotechnology fields, Dr. Gamal Ammar brings over 18 years of multidisciplinary experience across academia, industry, startups, private-sector consultancy, Fab Lab mentoring, and entrepreneurship. He began his career in 2006 with leading organizations like FAO and Monsanto, and earned his M.Sc. and Ph.D. in Biotechnology. Currently an Associate Professor at SRTA-City, Egypt, he is the founder and director of a fully integrated Plant Biotechnology Unit and a pioneering incubator, where he leads teams of scientists in translating cutting-edge research into sustainable biotechnological innovations. His work spans gene editing, molecular biology, pharmaceutical industry and medical biotechnology, microbial genetics, and environmental biotechnology, plus plant-microbe interactions, and abiotic stress resilience. Holding multiple patents, mentored numerous students, and has published widely in top-tier journals, and co-authored a bilingual biotechnology book series that bridges scientific and cultural divides. Dr. Ammar collaborates globally with institutions like Oxford, Paris-Saclay, and Cornell. He’s passionate about leveraging the vast potential of biotechnology, particularly through smart plant systems, to address global challenges. Dr. Ammar often highlights the remarkable resilience of plants: how these seemingly passive organisms utilize powerful biochemical strategies and symbiotic relationships to thrive in harsh conditions. This perspective influences his research and teaching, encouraging a view of plants as sophisticated models for adaptability and innovation. Dr. Ammar continues – with aims to utilize the state of the art and latest high throughput technologies, including revolutionary AI applications – to lead with a vision of driving biotechnology spectra toward global sustainability, food security, and transformative interdisciplinary research, leading to offer new solutions in a globe that faces climate changes, poverty, hunger, and renewable resources insecurity for reaching sustainable development.
